NVLX WONDONGA

NORTHERN VICTORIA LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE, WODONGA, VIC

Thompson Longhorn was responsible for the detailed design, fabrication, and installation of the Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange (NVLX) at Barnawartha, VIC. After the contract was awarded in January 2014, the final design concept was locked in by April and the detailed designing begun. Fabrication of standard componentry began immediately, and ran concurrently with site installation, which began in mid-September and was completed by mid-January 2015.

In addition to the design, fabrication, and construction of the cattle handling equipment, Thompson Longhorn was also responsible for the livestock water system, dust suppression, drainage sumps, supply, and installation of 442 cubic metres of concrete, and integration of building columns with the cattle yard infrastructure.

An integral part of this project is the high level of automation that is commonly required in a modern saleyard. NVLX features a pneumatically operated drafting unit which is automated through a PLC based control system that integrates with herd management software to selectively separate animals based on pre-determined criteria. The core centre equipment is all pneumatically controlled for ease of use.
