The yards were upgraded to cater for a high turnover backgrounding operation with a double-deck loading ramp and road train access.  Typically, the yards are operated by only one or two people, so the optimum stock flow was paramount to the design.  A medium-size shade roof over the core centre equipment provides relief from the heat of the Western Downs.  The core centre includes a 270°crowd with catwalk, curved race with half sheeting on the operating side, a Monarch MK2 restrainer and 3-way auto-drafting facility operated by Tru-Test weighing equipment, to enable stock to be drafted into pre-set weight ranges with minimal labour units.
